heavens knows why, but i absolutely adore the word indeed. when people use it as a one-liner, i nearly always swoon. i also thoroughly enjoy running off to explore new territories. i’ll be heading out to Seattle (by train) to meet up with friends and then be “roadtripping” it back down to Portland. i’m crossing my fingers and hoping for happy trails. yes, happy trails indeed.

too long ago, too long apart – she couldn’t wait another day for – the captain of her heart.
an old song that somehow marched its way into my mind while working on this little painting. Â

went to an amazingly delightful show on Saturday. The Yard Dogs Road Show made a two-night stop in Portland and I was able to indulge in their fanciful show. what a surprise!
the troupe was not only talented and witty but beautiful too. a feast for the senses, i’m telling you!Â
they almost made me want to run off and join the circus! i wouldn’t be alone with this wish, dear Emily has often mused about it too.
they are a must see should they be coming to a town near you.

at times we are basically unequipped to deal with certain emergencies.

just wanted to post my latest combination of efforts. i decided to add screenprinting to one of my three-color etchings and this was the result. i suppose that the illustration is trying to express some sort of dissatisfaction with communication – a feeling which i often have. perhaps this is a result of having learnt a foreign language at the age of 24 (german). along with the joys of discovering new ways to express myself, i also experienced a lot of loose threads in my conversations – points that should have been succinct and tidy often dissolved into a tangle of string.
i’ve been lovin a few artists lately:
Jeremy Fish
Carson Ellis
Lilly Piri

occasionally one gets the feeling that things are at one’s fingertips. like things are so close to coming into proper, magical balance. it’s a precarious situation and a feeling that might even cause one a slight bit of uncertain discomfort. then it’s time to play along and pretend that everything is as it should be
(but you may just want to keep your fingers crossed and hide them behind your back for that extra boost of added luck which just might be necessary).
***today, i’m wishing a certain someone (who turns 27) a year of magical balancing acts and happy bursts of luck***

when you’re away, i find that there’s just something missing.
a little gouache painting for illustration friday this week.
before working on this little piece, i stopped by at COLOURlovers to splash in the digital puddles of ink. if you love mixing colors, then stop by and happy splashing!Â
my mixes can be viewed here

sometimes i think that the old flowers are my favorites. the ones that got left over from last season and all that remains is their flower skeletons. i’ve been meaning to photograph a few of these such skeletons and today i managed to bring my camera along and find their location. Â

currently enjoying a little ballad about a salt truck by the wonderful Eleni Mandell. strange to personify something so mundane yet something so absurd - a truck the distributes salt to icy roads in need of safety.
wishing that something like a salt truck could clear my roads and make the drivin a bit easier…..
the song lyrics go a little something like this:
Salt truck, salt truck, clear my path
All my dreams have frozen fast
I want roads that I can drive on
I want a love I can rely on….
Aaahhhh, Eleni your songs are little pieces of bitter-sweetness.

this is a screenprinted illustration. it’s a nod to the traditions of Mexico in which the dead are celebrated by making small sugar skulls with their names written upon them, feasting at their graves and celebrating their lives with story-telling and laughter. i suppose that the dead enjoy all of these festivities too.
