I go to work and I go home and I run errands and I often follow the same tried and true route. Today I took a small detour when returning to the office after lunch and stumbled upon this curious store window. It had always been there, right under my nose, but I missed it because of my repetitive ways.
Such a delight to find something so wonderful just right there. And a nice reward for taking the long way back to the office!

Sometimes when I look up, I think that the power lines must have been installed for the sheer purpose of adorning the sky with jewelry. I’m sure that Karin, a jewelry designer herself, might agree.
Can you imagine it? Two burly men hanging up there discussing whether the sky needed a little bit of a necklace there or a pendant here or how about a brooch?

Went rummaging around in my old photos and discovered these abandoned beauties from March 2007, Rubbage Day, Santa Clara, California. It was both sad and wonderful to discover such interesting things set out on the curbside. A broken keyboard and a broken mirror – now reflecting blue skies and trees. A refrigerator in a lovely shade of 70’s brown – standing proud in the street. And the pair of beaten up TV lounge chairs – hopefully destined to stay together until the end.
I’m enjoying this newcomer by Diana Fayt.

Since Karin and I decided to collaborate on a power line project, I have been a little bit on the obsessive side of normal. Snapping photos of every sort of interesting wire that I spot – tangled, sagging, knotted, tagged, wound tight, messy and just plain strange. Portland seems to be a power line lovers paradise. Thank you, Portland!

Finally finished my pointy kitty, pattern by Wee Wonderfuls. I don’t have any experience making softies. But when I found the pattern, I knew that I would have to make one. How could I resist?

I’ve been learning to look at what’s up close and what’s far off in the distance. I find that when I focus on just one of the two, I miss so much of what’s going on at the other end. But, as you can imagine, looking up close and far off at the same time can be most difficult. It’s that sweet spot of balance somewhere in the middle that I’m really after.
This post over at Hi + Low really inspired me this morning: Immaculate Heart College Art Department Rules
My favorite: #6 Nothing is a mistake. There’s no win and no fail. There’s only make.
Make.
Such a simple and beautiful word.
What’s a day without MAKE?
Nothing.

I was in the office, alone, with my camera today. So I had the chance to photograph a few of my favorite things. Tacks on the tack-board. Some sort of color samples. And of course Felix.
Remember Felix, the office cat? Well today was a big day for him. His girlfriend bought him a new collar – with rhinestones. Pretty boy!

Spotted this helium flower yesterday while out and about. I do have a fascination for things that look like other things.
I’m amazed by Terhi Tolvanen’s jewellery (found via Cally)
Would love to try this on…

After seeing Karin’s photos from her visit to the “Electrical Substation” I was inspired to go out and find a similar electrical monster in my own backyard. After a bit of hunting, I found this one.
Which as you can see (from the last photo) is a dangerous monster but at other times a little bit elegant (middle photo).
As Karin mentioned, the “sirrrrrrrrrrrrrr” was audible. This must be the secret language of electrical monsters the world over.
